Katherine Fielding, Ph.D - Thibela TB Co-Investigator

Katherine FieldingDr. Fielding is a senior lecturer in the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Unit. Prior to joining the School she was a visiting scientist at CDC, Atlanta, US, and lectured in medical statistics at Nottingham University, UK. She has a Masters degree and PhD in statistics from the University of Sheffield, UK.

Since joining the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2000 she has been involved with a large tuberculosis (TB) case-control study, being conducted in the Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Guinee Conakry, investigating environmental and genetic risk factors for TB. More recently she is co-investigator on a large multicentre randomised controlled trial of a gatifloxacin-containing short-course chemotherapy regimen in the treatment of pulmonary TB.

She also works with Dr Alison Grant from the Clinical Research Unit at the School and Professor Gavin Churchyard and researchers at Aurum Institute for Health Research, Johannesburg, South Africa on a variety of TB and HIV related studies.
